What is Ashura?

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. When the Prophet ๏ทบ arrived in Madinah he found the Jews fasting this day because Allah saved Prophet Musa (AS) and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh on it. He said, โ€œWe have more right to Musa than you,โ€ fasted it and told the Muslims to fast it.

The reward of fasting Ashura

The Prophet ๏ทบ said fasting the Day of Ashura expiates the sins of the previous year (Muslim). He also intended to fast the 9th alongside it, so scholars recommend fasting the 9th and 10th together โ€” or the 10th and 11th โ€” to distinguish the Muslim fast.
