12: 1 to 12: 3

أعوذبِاللَّـهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

[I Seek refuge in ALLAH from Shaitan - the accursed one]
بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ
'Alif-Lām-Rā Tilka 'Āyātu Al-Kitābi Al-Mubīni

"Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture that maketh plain"

Allah Subhanu Wa Ta'ala alone knows the meaning of these letters "Alif-Lam-Ra".
These are verses of the book - The Clear Qur'an that is plain and apparent and explains, clarifies everything and also makes known the unclear matters.

(Then Allah (Subhanu wa ta'ala) says:)

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
'Innā 'Anzalnāhu Qur'ānāan `Arabīyāan La`allakum Ta`qilūna

"Lo! We have revealed it, a Lecture in Arabic, that ye may understand."

The Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammed (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) in the Arabic language. The language of Arabic is the most eloquent, plain, deep and expressive of the meanings that might arise in one's mind. Therefore, Allah (Subhanu wa ta'ala) revealed the Quran - the most honorable book in Arabic - The BEST and the most honorable of the languages, to the most honorable Prophet (Prophet Muhammed, PBUH), delivered by the most honorable angel (Gabriel - Jibreel), in the most honorable land on earth (The land of our Prophet, Makkah and Medinah). And its revelation started in the MOST honorable month of the year - The month of Ramadan! Hence, the Qur'an is JUST PERFECT in every aspect.

(Then Allah (Subhanu wa ta'ala) says:)

Naĥnu Naquşşu `Alayka 'Aĥsana Al-Qaşaşi Bimā 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayka Hādhā Al-Qur'āna Wa 'In Kunta MinQablihi Lamina Al-Ghāfilīna

"We narrate unto thee (Muhammad) the best of narratives in that We have inspired in thee this Qur'an, though aforetime thou wast of the heedless."

Allah (Subahnu wa ta'ala) calls the story of Prophet Yusuf, Ahsan Al-Qasas - The Best of Stories (narrated/revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) in the Holy Qur'an . Allah revealed this story (Surah Yusuf) to Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) to make him aware of the things he did not know. For, the jews, who had been given the Torah, would not reveal the truth and their narrations could mislead people. Therefore, Allah (Subhanu wa ta'ala) made Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) aware of this episode of past, by revealing word by word Surah Yusuf in HIS Divine way - which is pure and true!

Ahadith relating to the revelation of the verse 12:3:

Ibn Jarir At-Tabari recorded that `Abdullah bin `Abbas said, "They said, `O, Allah's Messenger! Why not narrate to us stories' Later on, this Ayah was revealed, (We relate unto you the best of stories...)'' There is a Hadith that is relevant upon mentioning this honorable Ayah, which praises the Qur'an and demonstrates that it is sufficient from needing all books besides it.

Imam Ahmad recorded a narration from Jabir bin `Abdullah that `Umar bin Al-Khattab came to the Prophet with a book that he took from some of the People of the Book. `Umar began reading it to the Prophet who became angry. He said, (Are you uncertain about it Ibn Al-Khattab By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! I have come to you with it white and pure. Do not ask them about anything, for they might tell you something true and you reject it, or they might tell you something false and you believe it. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! If Musa were living, he would have no choice but to follow me.)

Imam Ahmad also recorded a narration from `Abdullah bin Thabit who said, "`Umar came to Allah's Messenger and said; `O Messenger of Allah! I passed by a brother of mine from the tribe of Qurayzah, so he wrote some comprehensive statements from the Tawrah for me, should I read them to you' The face of Allah's Messenger changed with anger. So I said to him, `Don't you see the face of Allah's Messenger'' `Umar said, `We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad as our Messenger.' So the anger of the Prophet subsided, and he said, (By the One in Whose Hand is Muhammad's soul, if Musa appeared among you and you were to follow him, abandoning me, then you would have strayed. Indeed you are my share of the nations, and I am your share of the Prophets.)''

Allah (Subhanu wa Ta'ala) alone knows the meaning of  "Alif.Lam.Ra". Nobody in this world can explain their meaning, Insha Allah, Allah (Subhanu wa ta'ala) will reveal their meaning in the Hereafter.

We know about the significance of Arabic language. Almighty Allah speaks about revealing Qur'an in Arabic  for providing the BEST of understanding to its readers.

We also learn that The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and his companions spent time remembering Allah and praising Him also in this way of narrating stories (from the Qur'an). And, the stories from Quran are, of course, those living episodes from which one gets the essence of the reality and purpose of life. We know about the greatness of the Imaan of the people of past, who were not born into Muslim families like many of us now - had always a threat to their lives for accepting the Message of Allah, still they "BELIEVED" in the Prophets of Allah - so strong was their faith, so true was the fear of Allah in their hearts and so pure was their love for their Creator.

We also learn about the  superiority of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) over the other Prophets. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said :

"By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! If Musa were living, he would have no choice but to follow me"

He (PBUH) also said:

"By the One in Whose Hand is Muhammad's soul, if Musa appeared among you and you were to follow him, abandoning me, then you would have strayed. Indeed you are my share of the nations, and I am your share of the Prophets"

Prophet Musa (Alaihi salam), was called Kaleemullah, for he had  a privilege to talk to Allah (SWT) and still Allah (SWT) has promised our Prophet, Muhammed (SAWS) a status (Maqam-e-Mehmood) above all His Prophets on the Day of Judgement:)

What ever good comes out of this post is from Allah (Subhanu wa ta'ala) and whatever mistakes therein are from me - if you find any, please let me know ASAP - Insha Allah.
